While we are at it: Could we drop the .patch suffix from the patch
files? Or use a different one?

The .gitignore file from the upstream source causes git to ignore them
and you have to use "git add -f" every time you add a new one and I
forget to do this every time, only adding the series file, causing build
failures later on.

(Or we could remove the upstream .gitignore file on import, or better
yet, get Kern to remove it from the upstream tar-ball.)
