Hello .*,

with the Beta for 11.0.0 coming out possible the next week, the Christmas
break in the horizon and the first freeze phase rapidly approaching, there
is the decision to be made about which version to include in Debian
Bullseye.

9.6.7 will be released very soon, restoring compatibility with MariaDB
10.5 and also fixing the intermittent deadlock issues.

We know 9.6.7 be stable and more than suitable for a Debian release.

11.0.x on the other hand is brand new and features rewrites in parts of
the code including some major changes to the DB schemas. As of now, there
is no way to know if the code gets stable soon enough before the second
freeze phase prevents us from any major changes.

At the current moment, my proposal is to aim for 9.6.7 for Bullseye,
keeping 11.0.x in experimental and providing it for Bullseye via
Backports, as we have done with 9.6.x for Buster.

Any other proposals? In the end, Carsten is the one who has the final word
on all of this.

Grüße,
Sven.
