The fail message by itself doesn't really tell me much.

We're talking about a package version in the "experimental" section. For
packages in "experimental" there is no consistent way to build them
automatically, as "experimental" is not a complete distribution and is not
required to be internally consistent in terms of building from source the
way stable, unstable and (to a slightly lesser degree) testing are.

Thus the notion of "fails to build from source" is much less clearer than it
is with the regular distributions and only becomes useful once the build
environment is discussed.

I've verified that gedit 2.7.92-1 continues to build from source in the
build environment I use for building experimental packages, which is a sid
pbuilder chroot updated only with those packages from experimental needed to
fulfill the build dependencies declared in them. In gedit's case, the build
dependencies are all satisfiable in sid, and
pbuilder create --distribution sid && pbuilder build gedit_2.7.92-1.dsc
builds the package.

Apparently something in the build environment you're using is
changing/updating/corrupting config.guess prior to it being patched by the
relibtoolise patch. I don't know what it is. You now know what the intended
build environment for this source package is, so please feel free to
investigate how your build environment differs from that and what in that
difference is causing your problems.
