Hm.  The problem is that the descriptions are going to display like that
to users, and that looks pretty ugly.  I don't see how we can share
debian/control between the regular and legacy packages anyway (the long
description will need to change to say that this is a legacy package and
mention which chip sets it supports), so I'm not sure that this really
buys us very much.
