This was fixed by add handle --md5 option to chpasswd.

This BTS reports looks like incorrect content of /etc/pam.d/useradd.
You can start testing with etc/pam.d/useradd from dist tar ball.

I uderstend .. but on first look IMO all reported in patch comment BTS 
entries cand be successfully closed.
