The problem is that this particular fix needs larger amount of work and
isn't actually trivial meaning that unless you guys are helping us and
apply this (temporary) fix to systemd, we will not be able to do any
sensible work on either of the ports for a very long time!

I understand your reservations against such workarounds, but I am also
asking you to understand that - because systemd is such a fundamental
package with so many reverse dependencies - you need to be a bit more
understanding for such requests. It isn't like we have any other
alternatives for the time being, really.

Getting this workaround into the systemd package is really important
for the sparc ports and even upstream systemd has shown more compassion
for such requests. Heck, Lennart is even understanding when I asked
him to make changes to improve systemd on m68k.
