Works now. It turned out my TV box was a newer revision than support by kernel 
2.6.10, so I grabbed the latest DVB driver for my box from linuxtv.org CVS 
and backported it into my 2.6.10 kernel sources. So I can finally watch the 
first channel in xine. :)

There is only one problem left..... how can I access the OSD / switch channels 
from within xine? The readme mentions the keybindings editor of xine, but 
there is no single entry of VDR. I also tried the -r switch with vdr, didn't 
help either. Is there any way?
