ehrm, WHAT?! You seriously ask my system to run a background check each
minute of my precious idle time to verify if a package that *may*
eventually get installed (or even not at all ever) is present now?
Sorry, but that's about as bad coding style as I can imagine. If there's
updates to be made, their place is in the maintainer scripts. With or
without debconf, with or without update-alternatives etc., but not just
bothering other people's system resources at random.
