[sane-devel] latest sane screwed up my hoary box

"checkinstall" is not part of sane-backends.
If it's this checkinstall you are talking about:

They are talking about a compromised server in February (without any
consequences).

Be careful with such accusations.

Just to be sure I checked the md5sum of sane-backends-1.0.15.tar.gz
from above mentioned server and it's correct. Also the file is
identical to the local copy I have on my computer. And I don't have
any problems installing (and using) it.

Have you used any options to configure? Maybe your hard disc died just
when you installed sane?
