Thanks for hint Kelly. I tried a quick and dirty

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1907 [CanoScan],
chip=GL843) at libusb:001:004

but XSane is still unable to find the device.
$ xsane
Bussfel   (Swedish for "Bus error")

I guess all of these commands are already tried auto-magically, but it
wont hurt to try anyway.. =)
$ xsane canon:/dev/bus/usb/001/004
Popup: Could not open device "canon:/dev/bus/usb/001/004" Bad argument.
$ xsane canon630u:/dev/bus/usb/001/004

I've already ordered a HP5590P now and will return this one as soon as
the store opens again. (Since it's not for me it has to be plug-and-play
or Ubuntu will be kicked out of that machine, so I rather play it safe
here.. There is no reason to destroy a otherwise perfectly good computer
with Windows.. =)

Thanks again,
Johan
