[sane-devel] Fujitsu M3091DCd scanner: scanadf: invalid argument

Hi,

I've been using my Fujitsu M3091DCd scanner with Debian and Ubuntu for
quite a while (> five years).

Today, I installed a completely fresh Debian Sqeeze 6.0.3 on the same
(!) AMD64 hardware but the scanner doesn't work any more.

What I get:
user at alpha:~$ scanadf -L
device `fujitsu:/dev/sg1' is a FUJITSU M3091DCd scanner
device `epson2:/dev/sg2' is a Epson generic flatbed scanner

user at alpha:~$ scanadf -d 'fujitsu:/dev/sg1'
scanadf: sane_start: Invalid argument
Invalid argument
Scanned 0 pages

I tried to omit the quotes, or start scanadf without any argument, too.

scanimage fails, too:
user at alpha:~$ scanimage --device=fujitsu:/dev/sg1 -b
Scanning -1 pages, incrementing by 1, numbering from 1
Scanning page 1
scanimage: sane_start: Invalid argument

user at alpha:~$ scanimage -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v -v
--device=fujitsu:/dev/sg1 -T
scanimage: sane_start: Invalid argument
Closing device
Calling sane_exit
scanimage: finished

What's the invalid argument? Could scanadf/scanimage a bit more specific?

Any graphical application (gscan2pdf, xsane, Simple Scan) fails, too.

What works:
user at alpha:~$ scanimage --device=epson:/dev/sg2 -T
scanimage: scanning image of size 424x585 pixels at 1 bits/pixel
scanimage: acquiring gray frame, 1 bits/sample
scanimage: reading one scanline, 53 bytes... PASS
scanimage: reading one byte... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 2 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 4 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 8 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 16 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 32 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 64 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 63 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 31 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 15 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 7 bytes... PASS
scanimage: stepped read, 3 bytes... PASS

user at alpha:~$ scanimage --device=epson:/dev/sg2 -b

Any help is appreciated. I added a trace file to this mail but I don't
know if this works.

Dave
