Following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompileSaneFromSource on Ubuntu 18.04

I have this happen

git clone git://git.debian.org/sane/sane-backends.git
Cloning into 'sane-backends'...
fatal: unable to connect to git.debian.org:
git.debian.org[0: 194.177.211.202]: errno=Connection refused
git.debian.org[1: 2001:648:2ffc:deb::211:202]: errno=Network is unreachable

The Ubuntu system is generally accessing the Internet without problems.
ufw is inactive

I can't say that I've ever used any git:// url before, unless it was done
implicitly by the pycharm ide.

Any hints as to how to make nice to git.debian.org or otherwise access the
sources for sane1.0.27?

Thanks in advance
