Hi,

Regretfully, the instructions are outdated. Please use the GitLab address to 
obtain the sources:

git clone git at gitlab.com:sane-project/backends.git

However, it may happen that it is be better to use PPA to install sane-
backends into your system:

https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git
