Turns out, it can't. Now it won't even compile for me locally anymore,
once I upgraded my build-roots to the current unstable.

If I use the version from yesterday morning, it will compile.

So it seems we got shot in the knee by the MariaDB change. But I
believe, we will not be the only ones.
